Ships History
SS ANCONA was another fine ship built at the Leith Shipyards of Ramage & Fergusons Shipbuilders, some of the finest looking ships ever built came from the shipyard at Leith. This order was the first for the local Leuth Shipping Company of Jas Currie and was not to be the last.
The company that was to later go on to become better known as Currie Line of Leith.
This screw steam ship was schooner rigged and had three masts, she was to meet her untimely end during World War One when she fell victim (as so many did) she went down with the loss of all 25 crew and one passenger in 1915
She was the first of two sister ships built for the company which had a steam yacht built for them at the same shipyard a few years previous.
To be continued.
We try here to give as full an account of her history as time and research permits, if you know of missing info
or you have any photographs of her, then please get in touch and we shall update her story as we go along.
