Ships History
MOUNT CARMEL was one of the many fine vessels built at the Leith Shipyards of R & F Shipbuilders & Engineers later to become Ramage & Fergusons Shipbuilders Ltd, some of the finest looking ships ever built came from the shipyard at Leith.
Named after the mountain range in what is now modern day Israel, this ship joins the long list of mysterious disappearances at sea.
This large ship of Iron Construction complete with sails was lost of the coast of Florida in 1916, she was last seen off Pensacola july 1916 believed to have foundered in a storm nothing more heard of her, this was during World War One and some rumours remain that she may have been carrying a special cargo!
What this cargo was is anyones guess, could she have been carrying gold bullion or munitions or just ordinary cargo.
We try here to give as full an account of her history as time and research permits, if you know of missing info or you have any photographs of her, then please get in touch and we shall update her story as we go along.
